Thanks to Simon Terodde, Schalke 04 is clearly on the promotion course in the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of coach Mike Büskens celebrated a tedious 2-1 (0-0) success at SV Sandhausen after two goalscorers from the striker and took over the top of the table again.
Terodde (71st, 90.+1) with its goals of goals 26 and 27 secured the sixth victory in the seventh game under Büskens. Dennis Diekmeier (83.) had in the meantime compensated.
Despite the first bankruptcy after four games, Sandhausen can hardly be taken without defeat. Alou Kuol saw the red card (90.+5) because of coarse foul playing in added time.
“Incredible, so many emotions,” said Büskens at “Sky”. Diekmeiers director Rouven Schröder also found it “indescribable”. But he also called for “focus on the next tasks”.
Terodde answers Diekmeier
The Schalke immediately took over the command in front of 12,355 spectators driven by the agile Darko Churlinov, but had a hard time against deeply standing hosts. With their first big chance, the guests would almost take the lead, but Simon Terodde and Marius Bülter failed to goalkeeper Patrick Drewes (19th). Overall, however, the game of the favorite was lacking in ideas and pace. Rodrigo Zalazar also found his master in a free kick in Drewes (25th).
Sandhausen concentrated on the defensive and was usually stable in the first round. The hosts showed offensive, in which coach Alois Schwartz extended his contract by two years to 2024 on Friday, but little.
After the change, the picture did not change. Sandhausen defended with a lot of passion, Schalke pressed and looked for the gap. A game of patience developed for the royal blue, Terodde initially ensured redemption. He dusted after a post shot from Churlinov. Diekmeier shocked the guests who struck back late.
