Google Stadia was a chronicle of an announced death. From their conception, many expected this project to be a total failure. Although the company kept this division afloat for four years, in recent months several reports that pointed to its end have been announced. In this way, and as many expected, today the closure of google stadia was confirmed.
Although the servers remain open at the moment, will be on January 18, 2023, when the doors of Stadia are definitively closed . Google has mentioned that they intend to reimburse all hardware pieces bought through Google Store, as well as all additional games and content acquired in Stadia Store. The company expects this process to take until mid-January next year. This was what Phil Harrison, Vice President and General Manager of Stadia commented:
A few years ago, we also launched a consumer game service, Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach for consumers’ transmission was based on a solid technological base, it has not won the traction between the users we expected, so we made the difficult decision to start reducing our transmission service of transmission of Stadia.
However, This does not mean that all the company’s efforts are wasted . Not only has it been mentioned that the workers of this division will be reallocated to other areas of the company, but that Google plans to use Stadia technology on YouTube, Google Play and its augmented reality division. Editor’s note:
No one is surprised with this. Not only Google’s tendency to cancel projects pointed at the end of Stadia, but this service was not something interesting for the public. At least it seems that Stadia technology will continue to be used in other divisions.
